1. Prevalence data and victim surveys

According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estadística), the number of female victims of gender violence increased by 8.3% in 2022, up to 32,644 women. Almost half of these women (48.1%) were between 30 and 44 years old.

A macro-survey has been carried out every 4 years since the year 1999 on violence against women. The last one took place in 2019 and was included in the National Statistical Plan. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence developed the methodology, designed the questionnaire and analysed the results. Interviews were conducted to 9,568 women.

As part of the results:

Of the total number of women aged 16 years old and over living in Spain, 14.2% (2,905,489 women) have suffered physical and/or sexual violence from a partner, current or past, at some point in their lives. 1.8% (374,175 women) have suffered physical and/or sexual violence from a current or former partner in the last 12 months.
